\nFor active adults 50+\, this class provides fun and learning for beginners and more advanced actors who want to polish their skills. Michael Bias teaches the real deal - how actors prepare to go onstage\, immerse themselves in a role and draw on non-verbal memories to communicate with their audience. \;

Arts for Life NJ offers high-quality arts classes for active adults 50 and older. Beginning October 8 and running through December 3\, Arts for Life will be offering &ldquo\;The Actor&rsquo\;s Craft\,&rdquo\; an acting class for beginner and intermediate actors. The class is taught by Michael Bias\, founder and Artistic Director of The Garage Theatre Group\, a Bergen County institution for nearly 30 years.

\nStudents learn the foundation of the actor&rsquo\;s craft with a range of exercises developed by legendary acting teachers Lee Strasberg and Sanford Meisner. They develop their senses and imagination by practicing monologues and acting in scenes with classmates.
\n \;
\n&ldquo\;If you&rsquo\;re worried about memorization\, DON&rsquo\;T&rdquo\;\, says Michael Bias. &ldquo\;The class is structured to the individual. Some students are there to work on monologues and scenes\, others are there for the exploration. I&rsquo\;ve been teaching this class for five years and I&rsquo\;m thrilled with the results that I&rsquo\;ve observed. Non&ndash\;actors becoming actors. Students who said\, &ldquo\;I can&rsquo\;t memorize&rdquo\;\, doing full scenes.&rdquo\;

\nAs the class progresses\, relaxation and sensory exercises are introduced that open the students&rsquo\; imagination. Participants learn how to build believable characters by taking risks and making choices.
\n \;
\nClasses are held Tuesday nights 7:00 &ndash\; 9:00pm at Flat Rock Brook Nature Center\, 443 Van Nostrand Ave. in Englewood. Eight weeks are only $160\, or new students can take an introductory class for $25 and have that applied to the total when they continue.
